EXTRACT

At all times I emphasise rewarding your puppy for good behaviour, and ensuring that unwanted behaviour doesn’t get rewarded, even by accident. I also emphasise the importance of using food, praise and other fun things to create a pleasant association for the pup with various experiences in life.
I hope you will read Book One in this series: Training With A Friendly Face, which will give you plenty of information about how to train using rewards. Just in case you don’t have Book One in front of you, I will recap briefly on training methods.
You can start training your puppy, using gentle methods of encouragement and reward, from 8 weeks of age and you should continue as the dog grows up. Please don’t wait until problems have started to show up.
Book Three in the series, Sit Happens - Civilising Your Dog, shows you how to continue with training after the puppy stage. It covers the top ten topics in practical pet dog training.
